Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaker. Feminist Frequency is a website which hosts video and commentary analysing portrayals female characters in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian has been a blogger, critic of the media and award-winning feminist for nearly a decade. Feminist Frequency, a web-based resource dedicated to education, which examines women's positions in the pop culture narratives It is the brainchild of Anita Sarkeesian. Additionally, she serves as the director of operations. In her efforts to break down stereotypes that are associated with women in pop culture, she has also been working on issues related the harassing women targeted by the media and different classes of individuals online. A graduate in social and political thought at York University Sarkeesian is also well-known as a sought-after speaking engagement and has given talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival as well as at the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Interested in issues concerning gender and feminism since at an early age, she created her own website Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was she was still at University. A woman with ambitions to start a web-series examining the gender-based representation in video games was targeted by an online campaign. The attack did not deter her instead it only strengthened her resolve as a feminist media critic. Her many notable contributions in the feminist field were recognized by a variety of awards. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her role as a critic of media and founded Feminist Frequency. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit organization that examines how women are depicted in contemporary pop culture.
